The brief video by Oppo company has been released and hints at the new type of camera design for smartphones. The Company Self-developed retractable camera showed enlarging from the phone body before retracting back inside. The video suggests that the procedure is waterproof. It will automatically retract the camera if the mobile drops. It is a Chinese technology company and shares a clip that shows a smartphone that has a retractable or pop-up rear camera and shows how it works. It will be a 2-day program Oppo company expected to show off different innovations and products.
In contrast to pop-up selfie cameras, it hides inside the mobile phone until needed and move the camera back and forth on the Z-axis and have implications for image quality. Though, Oppo has not yet claimed anything about any optical advantages of this design. It does not appear to be a zoom lens given it is marked simply as 50 mm. But, it could conceptually help improve telephoto performance.
The labeling on the camera module shows that the sensor is one by one or 1.56 inches. The lens is 50 mm equivalent with an f/ 2.4 aperture. It means that it should be around 2-times wider than the Main Lens. It is a much bigger sensor than the user tends to find behind telephoto lenses. So, maybe the extra height allowed by the retracting process is what makes this possible.
Oppo is releasing the video ahead of next Week’s annual Inno Day event. It’s regarding where the company often shows different concepts and technologies before they officially make it in use. In recent years event featured a rollable smartphone and AR glasses. This year Oppo is holding Inno Day across 2-days, On December 14th and 15th.
